01Define the boundary
Identify the actor, target resource and operation that user lifecycle management is meant to govern.
02Configure the policy
Define the events that create, classify, update and disable an identity, then connect each event to its memberships, sessions, credentials and provisioned accounts. Keep reversals and exceptional cases visible.
03Exercise the edge cases
A departure triggers a review of group memberships, application access, active sessions and API keys—not merely a change to a profile field. Also test the path that should be denied, deferred or sent for review.
04Review the outcome
Check that the resulting state is understandable and that the decision can be investigated later. For audit-enabled operations, confirm the relevant actor and context are captured.
