01Define the boundary
Identify the actor, target resource and operation that audit is meant to govern.
02Configure the policy
Include meaningful actor, resource, action, timestamp and relevant context in event design. Link related steps where the system supports transaction tracing and define retention and access policies for audit records.
03Exercise the edge cases
An administrator investigates a recovery event and follows the sequence of identity, session and policy actions instead of relying on a single success message. Also test the path that should be denied, deferred or sent for review.
04Review the outcome
Check that the resulting state is understandable and that the decision can be investigated later. For audit-enabled operations, confirm the relevant actor and context are captured.
